THE JOURNAL OF BONE AND JOINT SURGERY A Method of Treatment with Oblique Traction
نویسنده
چکیده
The treatment of Bennett’s fracture has varied between physical therapy only and open reduction with osteosynthesis (Gedda 1954). An exact reduction is essential for a good result. Gedda (1954) showed that any residual displacement of the joint was always followed by a secondary arthrosis with permanent symptoms. A new method of treatment by oblique traction was reported in 1955 by Thor#{233}n, but at that time only ten cases had been treated and the follow-up period was short. We have now operated on thirty-four cases and present here the follow-up ofall the cases and our experiences of the method.

Fractures of the femur during total hip replacement and their management.
Seventeen femoral fractures occurred in 1,751 operations for total hip replacement. They usually occurred during dislocation of the hip, reaming of the shaft, or insertion of the femoral component, and were common in second operations. The short oblique fracture can be controlled by use of the standard implant, and the long oblique fracture by internal fixation. Fractures well below the implant...
متن کاملThe Stabilising Effect of the Anterior Oblique Ligament to Prevent Directional Subluxation at the Trapeziometacarpal Joint of the Thumb: A Biomechanical Cadaveric Study
Background: The trapeziometacarpal joint (TMCJ) is inherently unstable, relying on ligament restraint to preventsubluxation. Subluxation of the thumb in a dorsoradial direction is often observed in clinical practice, either after acuteligament injury or more commonly with osteoarthritis (OA). This subluxation follows loss of function of trapeziometacarpalligaments that stabilise this joint, res...
متن کاملHip Surgery in Quiescent or Active Tubercular Hip Arthritis; Is Reactivation Risk Really a Matter
About 15 % of all musculoskeletal tuberculosis (TB) have hip involvement. Early anti-tubercular drug therapy and other conservative treatment including short-term traction and mobilization programs could prevent hip joint destruction. Reactivation of TB accounts for a significant of active TB incidence, especially in the developed countries with a low TB prevalence. The risk of TB activation ...
متن کاملsCD30 and sCD40L Detection in Patients with Osteosarcoma, Chondrosarcoma and Ewing Sarcoma
Background: Primary malignant bone tumors are heterogeneous groups of neoplasms, which affect mainly children and adolescents. The most common types are Osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma and chondrosarcoma. Elevation of sCD30 and sCD40L has been observed in lymphoma, leukemia and autoimmune disorders. Objective: To evaluate serum concentrations of sCD30 and sCD40L in patients with primary malignant b...
متن کاملSurgical treatment outcome of giant cell tumor of distal ulna: En bloc resection vs. curettage and bone graft
Background: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the bone is a benign neoplasm with local aggressive behavior. Distal ulna is a very rare place for GCT. Published studies have mainly focused on case reports, and thus there is no consistent treatment strategy for this tumor at this location. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the oncological and functional results of 2 di...
